Ceramic

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001805

A predominantly inorganic, non-metallic solid material prepared by the action of heat and subsequent cooling. These materials possess a crystalline, glassy, or mixed-phase microstructure and are formed from powders or through the chemical transformation of a precursor. Ceramics are characterized by their hardness, high compressive strength, and brittleness, with examples including alumina and silicon carbide.
