Ceramization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001810
The process of converting a non-ceramic material, known as a ceramic precursor, into a ceramic product through the application of heat. This transformation involves thermal decomposition (pyrolysis) of the precursor, which is often a polymer or organometallic compound, leading to the formation of an inorganic, non-metallic solid. The process is conducted under a controlled atmosphere to achieve the desired final composition and microstructure.
