Standard hydrogen electrode
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011296
A reference electrode consisting of a platinum electrode immersed in an acidic solution with a hydrogen ion concentration of 1 M, over which hydrogen gas at 1 bar pressure is bubbled. Its electrode potential is arbitrarily defined as zero volts at all temperatures. This electrode serves as the universal reference point for measuring standard electrode potentials of other half-cells.
