Counting loss

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002644

The reduction in the observed counting rate from a radiation detector due to the detector's inability to register all incoming radiation events. This occurs when two or more events arrive within the detector's dead time, causing only one to be recorded. Counting loss increases with higher counting rates and longer dead times, requiring correction for accurate measurements.
