Dead time correction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013014

An adjustment applied to observed count rates in radiation detection to account for the detector's inability to register events that occur within a short period after a previous event. This correction is necessary because detectors have a finite recovery time, during which they are insensitive to new radiation. The corrected count rate provides a more accurate measure of the true disintegration rate of a radioactive sample.
