Dead-end metabolite
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002882
A compound formed when a microorganism metabolizes a substrate that the organism cannot then metabolize any further. It is formed mainly during cometabolism, in which a pollutant is transformed without supporting growth, and it may accumulate in the culture or environment unless another organism degrades it.
