Dead-volume
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002884
The volume within a chromatographic system that is not swept by the mobile phase, or where the mobile phase is stagnant. This includes volumes in connectors, detector cells, and poorly packed column sections. Excessive dead-volume contributes to band broadening and reduces separation efficiency in chromatography.
