Retention volume of an unretained compound

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010294

The volume of mobile phase required to elute a compound that does not interact with the stationary phase from a chromatographic column. This volume, also known as the mobile phase holdup volume or dead volume, represents the interstitial volume of the column. It is used to calculate adjusted retention volumes and retention factors.
