Mobile-phase speed

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013296

The linear velocity of the mobile phase moving through a chromatographic column, calculated as the column length divided by the mobile-phase hold-up time. This parameter influences the efficiency and speed of a separation, affecting band broadening and analysis time. Mobile-phase speed is distinct from the mobile-phase flow rate, which is the volume of mobile phase passing through the column per unit time.
