Intraparticle volume of the column

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006017

The volume of mobile phase held inside the pores of the stationary phase particles in a column, as distinct from the interstitial volume between the particles. Together they make up the total mobile phase volume of a column packed with porous particles. Solutes small enough to enter the pores can access it, whereas very large solutes are excluded from it, which is the basis of size-exclusion chromatography.
