Interstitial volume
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005993
The volume of the mobile phase located between the particles of the stationary phase packing in a chromatography column. This volume, also known as the interparticle volume or void volume, contributes to the total volume of mobile phase within the column but excludes the volume within the pores of the packing particles. It is a key parameter in calculating column porosity and understanding band broadening.
