Intersystem crossing

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005994

A non-radiative transition between two electronic states of different spin multiplicity, such as from a singlet state to a triplet state, or vice versa. This process involves a change in the total spin angular momentum of the molecule. It is a key step in phosphorescence and in many photochemical reactions, competing with fluorescence and internal conversion.
