Interval 1 in emulsion polymerisation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005995
The first period of a batch emulsion polymerization, during which new polymer particles are formed, for example by radicals entering monomer-swollen surfactant micelles, while monomer droplets serve as a reservoir. Particle number and polymerization rate both rise, and the interval ends when no new particles form, typically at a few percent conversion. Interval 2 follows, with constant particle number and monomer droplets still present.
