Emulsion polymerisation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003859

A heterogeneous polymerization process where monomers are dispersed as an emulsion in a continuous phase, typically water, stabilized by surfactants. Polymerization occurs within monomer-swollen micelles or polymer particles, leading to high molecular weight polymers at rapid rates. This method is widely used for producing synthetic rubbers, plastics, and coatings, yielding latexes with high solids content.
