Monomer-flooded emulsion polymerisation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013305

An emulsion polymerization run with a semi-continuous feed, in which monomer is added faster than it is consumed. The monomer concentration inside the polymer particles reaches or exceeds its equilibrium swelling value, so separate monomer droplets can form. It is the opposite regime to monomer-starved operation, where the feed rate limits the polymerization rate and the particles stay below saturation.
