Radiationless transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009837
A process in which an excited electronic state of an atom or molecule decays to a lower energy state without the emission of a photon. The excess energy is converted into vibrational or translational energy within the molecule or transferred to the surrounding medium as heat. Examples include internal conversion and intersystem crossing.
