Hot transition

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005409

An electronic transition that originates from an excited vibrational state of the initial electronic state, rather than from the ground vibrational state. These transitions are observed when the sample temperature is high enough to populate higher vibrational levels. Hot transitions typically appear at lower energies (longer wavelengths) than transitions originating from the ground vibrational state.
