Resonance radiation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010256
Electromagnetic radiation that is absorbed by an atom or molecule, causing it to transition from its ground electronic state to an excited electronic state, and is then re-emitted at the same wavelength as the absorbed radiation. This process is a form of fluorescence where no energy is lost to vibrational relaxation. It is characteristic of atomic species and some simple molecules.
