Stokes type radiation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011441
Electromagnetic radiation emitted by a substance at a longer wavelength (lower energy) than the exciting radiation, due to the loss of some energy to vibrational modes within the molecule. This phenomenon is observed in fluorescence and Raman scattering, where the emitted photons have less energy than the absorbed photons. The energy difference corresponds to vibrational energy levels.
