Absorption spectrum

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000082

A plot of the amount of light absorbed by a substance as a function of wavelength or frequency. It reveals the characteristic wavelengths at which a substance absorbs electromagnetic radiation, corresponding to electronic or vibrational transitions within its molecules. This spectrum is unique for each compound and is used for identification and quantitative analysis.
