Absorptivity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000083

A measure of how strongly a substance absorbs light at a particular wavelength, normalized by its concentration and the path length of the light through the sample. It is an intrinsic property of a substance and is related to the molar absorption coefficient (molar absorptivity) when concentration is expressed in moles per liter. The unit for molar absorptivity is typically L mol-1 cm-1.
