Molar absorption coefficient

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007466

A quantitative measure of how strongly a chemical species absorbs light at a particular wavelength. It represents the absorbance of a solution with a concentration of one mole per liter in a path length of one centimeter. This coefficient, often denoted by epsilon (ε), is expressed in units of L mol⁻¹ cm⁻¹.
