Absorption intensity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000078
A measure of the strength of an absorption band in a spectrum, reflecting the probability of a transition occurring. It is typically quantified by the area under the absorption curve or by the molar absorption coefficient at the band maximum. This intensity is influenced by the concentration of the absorbing species, the path length of the light, and the intrinsic properties of the molecular transition.
