Attenuation coefficient

A quantitative measure of how strongly a substance or medium impedes the passage of radiation, such as light or sound waves. It describes the fractional decrease in radiation intensity per unit path length. This coefficient is expressed in units of inverse length, such as cm⁻¹ or m⁻¹.
