Geometric attenuation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004852
The reduction in the intensity of radiation as it spreads out from a source, due to the inverse square law. This effect is purely a consequence of the increasing area over which the radiation is distributed, not due to absorption or scattering by a medium. For a point source, the intensity decreases proportionally to the square of the distance from the source.
