Absorbance
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000059
A measure of the amount of light absorbed by a sample as it passes through a medium. It is defined as the logarithm to the base 10 of the ratio of the incident radiant power to the transmitted radiant power. Absorbance is a dimensionless quantity and is directly proportional to the concentration of the absorbing species and the path length of the light through the sample, as described by the Beer-Lambert law.
