Beer-Lambert law

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001172

A fundamental law in spectroscopy that relates the attenuation of light through a substance to the properties of the material. It states that the absorbance of a solution is directly proportional to the concentration of the absorbing species and the path length of the light through the solution. The law is expressed as A = εbc, where A is absorbance, ε is the molar absorptivity, b is the path length, and c is the concentration.
