Mass action, law of
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013257
A principle stating that the rate of a chemical reaction is directly proportional to the product of the concentrations of the reactants, each raised to a power equal to its stoichiometric coefficient in the balanced chemical equation. This law also describes the state of chemical equilibrium, where the ratio of products to reactants at equilibrium is constant. It applies to elementary reactions and can be used to derive rate laws for complex reactions.
