Absorbance

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003197

A measure of the amount of light absorbed by a substance as it passes through it, often expressed as the logarithm of the ratio of incident to transmitted radiant power. It is a dimensionless quantity that quantifies how much radiation is removed from a beam by absorption. In atmospheric chemistry, it is used to characterize the absorption properties of aerosols and gases.
