Mass absorption coefficient

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007129

A measure of how strongly a substance absorbs electromagnetic radiation per unit mass. It quantifies the fraction of incident radiation absorbed as it passes through a given mass of material. This coefficient is expressed in units of area per unit mass, such as square meters per kilogram, and varies with the wavelength of the radiation and the composition of the absorbing medium.
