Generalized absorption coefficient
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005896
A measure of how effectively a substance absorbs electromagnetic radiation over a broad range of wavelengths or under a set of conditions. It extends the concept of a monochromatic absorption coefficient to represent the average absorption across a spectral band. This parameter is used in atmospheric models to calculate the total radiative heating or cooling caused by gases like water vapor and carbon dioxide.
