Band absorption
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003795
The selective absorption of electromagnetic radiation by atmospheric gases within specific wavelength or frequency ranges, known as absorption bands. This process occurs due to the vibrational and rotational energy transitions of molecules like water vapor, carbon dioxide, and ozone. Band absorption is a fundamental mechanism influencing the Earth's radiative balance and greenhouse effect.
