Band model
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003796
A simplified mathematical representation used to calculate the absorption and emission of radiation by atmospheric gases over a specific spectral band. These models approximate the complex line-by-line absorption characteristics of molecules, making radiative transfer calculations more computationally efficient. Common band models include the Goody random model and the Malkmus statistical model.
