Plane parallel atmosphere

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007964

A simplified model of the atmosphere where properties vary only with height and are uniform horizontally. This approximation is useful for theoretical studies of radiative transfer and atmospheric stability, as it simplifies complex three-dimensional processes into one dimension. It is often employed in initial calculations of atmospheric absorption and emission.
