Plane polarization
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007965
A characteristic of electromagnetic radiation where the electric field oscillates in a single plane perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation. In atmospheric optics, scattering by aerosols and molecules can induce plane polarization in sunlight, leading to phenomena like the polarization of the sky. This property is exploited in some remote sensing applications to infer aerosol characteristics.
