Polarization-diversity radar
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008043
A type of weather radar that transmits and receives radio waves with both horizontal and vertical orientations. By analyzing the differences in the returned signals for each polarization, the radar can infer information about the size, shape, and composition of precipitation particles. The differential reflectivity (ZDR) is a key product derived from these measurements, distinguishing between rain, hail, and snow.
