Polarimetric radar

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008039

A type of weather radar that transmits and receives electromagnetic waves in both horizontal and vertical polarizations. By analyzing the differences in how these polarized waves are scattered by precipitation, it can distinguish between different types of hydrometeors, such as rain, hail, and snow. This provides more detailed information than conventional radar for forecasting and hazard assessment.
