Polarimeter
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008038
An optical instrument designed to measure the polarization state of light, including its degree and orientation. In atmospheric science, polarimeters are used to analyze scattered sunlight or emitted radiation to infer properties of aerosols, clouds, and atmospheric gases. These measurements provide information on particle size, shape, and refractive index, aiding in climate modeling and air quality assessment.
