Orthogonal antennas

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007747

A pair of antennas positioned and oriented so their respective polarization planes are perpendicular to each other, typically horizontal and vertical. This configuration is used in dual-polarization radar systems to transmit and receive electromagnetic waves with two distinct polarizations simultaneously or in rapid succession. Analyzing the signals from both antennas provides detailed information about the size, shape, and orientation of hydrometeors like raindrops, hail, and snowflakes.
