Orthogonal

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007746

Describing two vectors, functions, or phenomena that are statistically independent or at right angles to each other in a mathematical space. In meteorology, this concept is applied to analyze atmospheric data, such as in empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis, where modes of variability are represented by orthogonal patterns. Orthogonal components have no linear correlation.
