Galerkin methods
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005865
A class of numerical techniques for solving differential equations by transforming them into a system of algebraic equations. These methods involve choosing a set of basis functions and then requiring that the residual of the approximate solution be orthogonal to these basis functions. They are widely applied in atmospheric and oceanic modeling, particularly within finite element and spectral methods.
