Discretization

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005051

The process of converting continuous mathematical models or physical systems into a finite set of discrete points or elements. This technique is applied in numerical weather prediction to represent atmospheric variables, such as temperature and pressure, at specific grid points rather than as continuous fields. Finite difference and finite element methods are common approaches for discretizing atmospheric equations.
