Operator
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007701
A mathematical function or algorithm applied to data fields within a numerical weather prediction model to simulate a physical process. Operators represent discrete approximations of the differential equations governing atmospheric dynamics and physics, such as advection, diffusion, or pressure gradient forces. For example, a finite difference operator is used to calculate spatial derivatives of variables like temperature or wind speed on the model's grid.
