Linear operator
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006984
A mathematical transformation that satisfies the properties of additivity and homogeneity, meaning it preserves vector addition and scalar multiplication. In atmospheric science, linear operators are frequently used in numerical models and data assimilation to represent physical processes or transformations of atmospheric states. An example is the differentiation operator, which is linear.
