Finite differencing

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005586

A numerical method for approximating the derivatives of a function by using differences between function values at discrete points. This technique transforms differential equations into algebraic equations, which can then be solved computationally. It is a fundamental tool in numerical weather prediction models to simulate atmospheric processes over time and space.
