Backward difference

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003775

A numerical approximation of a derivative where the value of a function at a point is subtracted from its value at the preceding point, divided by the step size. It is used in numerical models to discretize differential equations. This method is one of several finite difference schemes employed in atmospheric modeling.
