Courant-Friederichs-Lewy condition
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010451
A necessary condition for the numerical stability of explicit finite difference methods used to solve partial differential equations, particularly in atmospheric and oceanic modeling. It states that the numerical domain of dependence must include the physical domain of dependence. This condition limits the maximum time step that can be used in a simulation based on the grid spacing and wave speed.
