Initial condition
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006552
The complete set of atmospheric data describing the state of the atmosphere at the starting time of a numerical weather prediction model run. This includes variables such as temperature, pressure, wind, and humidity at all grid points throughout the model's domain, from the surface to the upper atmosphere. The accuracy of the initial condition, derived from observations and data assimilation, directly affects the quality of the resulting forecast.
