Bogus vortex
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003967
An artificially generated cyclonic circulation inserted into the initial conditions of a numerical weather prediction model. This technique is applied when observational data is too sparse to accurately represent an existing storm, such as a tropical cyclone over the ocean. The structure of this synthetic vortex is based on climatological data or recent observations, providing a more realistic initial state for the model's forecast run.
