Line vortex
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006977
An idealized model in fluid dynamics representing a vortex as an infinitely long, straight line of infinitesimal thickness around which fluid circulates. The velocity of the fluid is inversely proportional to the distance from the line and is purely tangential, creating a circular flow pattern in planes perpendicular to the vortex line. This model is a building block for understanding more complex flows, such as the circulation around an aircraft wing or in a tornado.
